Black C Art Gallery

Black C Art Gallery, Southeast 2nd Place, Gainesville, FL, USA

On September 26th, at 7:00 p.m., Black C Art Gallery will be presenting an encore performance of "...there was a Girl," which was written, directed, and conceived by Lauren Warhol Caldwell. At the end of the show, we will be hosting a Q&A session with the actors--Ani Collier, Lauren Warhol Caldwell, and Gregg Jones--as well as two special guests...stay tuned for more on that.

In the meantime, a message from Caldwell herself:

"The piece we are sharing is written in a sort of free-verse style, shared with an ingredient of narrative. This attempt allows the audience to interpret the images and descriptive nature of the writing in their own way.

Our story happens to involve the conflict between a man and a woman, but it is certainly not limited to the relationship between a man and woman exclusively. Instead, this story takes place between people of all genders, in all categories of life. It happens in the workplace, between friends, in the family unit, and on the playground at school. It is a plague, and this plague is a monster. That is all I can say, because I want the audience members to explore the freedom of interpretation as they witness the circumstances.

I dedicate this story to a group of women in our own city, who wish to remain anonymous. My time with them, in my research, has exposed me to their courage amidst the horrors in their lives. I will never forget the looks on their faces, or the tones in their voices, as they struggled to share their secrets. I also dedicate this story to a young man, who was in a production of CHICAGO on Broadway. His name is Jeff Loeffelholz, and his story exemplifies an ending that is heartbreaking.

What is this story? We will let you decide."
